📝 Overview

The Nursing Center is the hub screen for every clinical record ElderSuite keeps on a client: assessments, orders, notes, diagnoses, treatments, medications, medication administrations and treatment administrations, plus the reference lists those records depend on.

ElderSuite serves adult day care centers nationwide.

It is a navigation screen only. There is nothing on it to fill in and nothing to save. Everything you type is typed on the screens the Nursing Center opens. Each of those screens opens as its own window inside the ElderSuite main window, and the Nursing Center stays open behind it.

⚙ How It Works

1. Open the Nursing Center

Sign in to ElderSuite and click Nursing Center on the main menu. No other Center or window opens it.

Users at the Full Access level always see the Nursing Center button. Everyone else needs the Nursing Center permission on their employee record in the Provider Center. See How to Add Employees and Set Permissions in ElderSuite.

2. Use the Clinical Record Buttons

Ten large picture buttons open the nursing record screens:

  • Health Assessment & Service Plans: a client's health assessments and service plans. See Health Assessment & Service Plan - Form 3050.
  • Physician's Orders: the client's physician's orders.
  • Physician's Standing Orders: standing orders for routine care and emergency protocols. See How to Manage Physician's Standing Orders in ElderSuite.
  • Monthly Nursing Assessments: the client's monthly nursing assessments.
  • Nursing Notes: the client's nurse's notes.
  • Diagnoses: the client's diagnoses.
  • Treatments: the client's treatments.
  • Medications: the client's medications.
  • eMAR: the electronic medication administration record. See How to Use eMAR in ElderSuite.
  • eTAR: the electronic treatment administration record, where treatments are recorded as done, refused or held and the monthly TAR is printed. See How to Use eTAR in ElderSuite.

If the screen a button opens is already open, ElderSuite brings it to the front with your work still in place instead of opening a second copy.

3. Set Up Reference Lists in Related Activities

The Related Activities section at the bottom left holds four links that set up the records nursing work depends on:

  • Manage Physicians: the list of physicians the clinical screens choose from.
  • Manage Pharmacies: the list of pharmacies the clinical screens choose from.
  • Manage Hospitals: the list of hospitals the clinical screens choose from.
  • Setup Default Standing Order: the standing order that new standing orders start from. See How to Set Up the Default Standing Order in ElderSuite.

A center typically sets up physicians, pharmacies and hospitals first, because the clinical screens choose from those lists. The default standing order is configured once and then reused when standing orders are created. Manage Physicians, Manage Pharmacies and Manage Hospitals can also be reached from the Client Center.

4. Check Permissions When Something Is Grayed Out

Permission checks on the Nursing Center apply only to users at the Limited Access level. At every other access level, all ten buttons and all four links stay enabled.

For Limited Access users, each button and link needs its matching permission on the employee record. A button without permission is grayed out and no message appears. eMAR needs either View eMAR or Record Medication Administrations (eMAR). eTAR needs either View eTAR or Record Treatment Administrations (eTAR). Setup Default Standing Order needs the Configure Default Standing Order permission.

Ask an administrator to grant the permission in the Provider Center (How to Add Employees and Set Permissions in ElderSuite). It takes effect within five minutes on the next screen you open, or right away after signing out and back in.

✅ Important Limitations

The Nursing Center saves nothing and prints nothing. The monthly MAR prints from eMAR, the monthly TAR from eTAR, and paper nursing forms from the Report Center.

Permissions for Manage Physicians, Manage Pharmacies and Manage Hospitals are set separately for the Nursing Center and the Client Center. A user can have access from one Center and not the other.

The eMAR and eTAR permissions are separate from Medications and Treatments access. Having one does not grant the other.
