How to Use the Report Viewer in ElderSuite

The Report Viewer opens by itself after ElderSuite produces a printable document. Print, save a copy, find text, move pages, zoom, and close without changing any records.

📝 Overview

The Report Viewer is the window ElderSuite opens by itself when a screen finishes producing a printable document. No Center has a button or menu item for it. Produce a report, form, or assessment, and the viewer appears on its own.

Use it to read the finished document, print it, save a lasting copy, search its text, move between pages, and zoom in on small print. Most printouts start from the Report Center; see the ElderSuite Report Center Overview. For an example of a report that ends in this viewer, see How to Print Meal Applications in ElderSuite.

⚙ How It Works

The Viewer Opens After a Document Is Produced

ElderSuite finishes the document, a Working... indicator can flash while it loads, and the Report Viewer opens inside the main ElderSuite window. The screen that produced the document stays open behind it.

The display starts at Page Level zoom, so a whole page fits in the window. The side navigation pane is hidden; move through pages with the toolbar instead.

The viewer cannot open a document on its own. It only shows what ElderSuite has just produced. To look at a report again later, produce it again from the same screen.

Print, Save As, and Find

The toolbar opens with Print, Save As, and Find on the left. Their keyboard shortcuts are Ctrl+P, Ctrl+S, and Ctrl+F.

Print opens the printing dialog so you can choose a printer and page settings. Before that dialog appears, ElderSuite applies the current Enable Legacy Mode setting.

Save As prompts you to choose where to keep a copy. Use it before you close the viewer if you need the document after the window is gone.

Find opens a text search box for words inside the document, such as a client name or a date.

For claim forms, Save As works differently. When the document on screen is the HICF 1500 claim form, Save As is grayed out. When the viewer was opened from the Claim screen, Save As is removed from the toolbar. In both cases, use Print. For editing that claim form, see How to Edit a Claim Health Insurance Claim Form in ElderSuite.

Pages and Zoom

Previous Page and Next Page move one page at a time (Page Up and Page Down). The page number box after Next Page shows the page you are on. Type a whole number and confirm to jump to that page.

If the page number box reads 0, no document has loaded. Close the viewer and produce the report again. An empty window with a File Not Found message means the same thing.

Zoom Out and Zoom In step the magnification down or up. The Zoom dropdown offers these choices: 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, 150%, 200%, 400%, 500%, Actual Size, Page Level, Fit Width, and Fit Visible. Page Level fits a whole page in the window; Fit Width fills the window's width so you scroll down through a page.

Enable Legacy Mode

Enable Legacy Mode sits at the right-hand end of the toolbar. It is a printing fallback for printers that produce blank or garbled pages. The setting is saved as soon as you switch it, remembered between sessions, and applied the next time you click Print, so you do not need to reopen the report. For printer troubleshooting that uses this toggle, see Report or Form Not Printing Correctly or Completely in ElderSuite.

Closing Returns You to the Producing Screen

Close the Report Viewer from its title bar. You return to the screen that produced the document. The window has no minimize or maximize button and does not appear in the taskbar, so it cannot be tucked aside.

Nothing done in the Report Viewer changes a client, claim, assessment, or meal application. The window displays the finished document only.

⚠ Closing Removes the Document on Screen

The document in the Report Viewer is a temporary copy. Closing the window removes it. Print and Save As are the ways to keep a lasting copy. Produce the report again from the same screen if you need to see it later.
