Troubleshooting Common Computer Issues with ElderSuite
Most ElderSuite freezes, slowdowns, and odd errors clear after an update, a full Windows restart, and a connectivity check—before you spend time on a ticket.

Most ElderSuite freezes, slowdowns, failed updates, and odd error messages come from the computer—not from missing client or claim data. Work the same four pre-ticket checks on ElderSuite Support, then the connectivity and missing EOB Code List steps below, before you open a ticket.
These steps assume Windows 10 or later. Documentation for ElderSuite lives at adult day care resources; for printouts that look wrong after these checks, see Report or Form Not Printing Correctly or Completely in ElderSuite.
Close ElderSuite so pending updates can install
ElderSuite often downloads fixes in the background. Closing the program completely lets a pending update finish installing. Leaving ElderSuite open for days—or only minimizing it—can leave you on a version that already has a known fix.
- Save any open work in ElderSuite.
- Exit ElderSuite fully (not Sleep or Standby for Windows; close the application).
- Start ElderSuite again and retry what failed.
To confirm you are current without waiting for a background install:
- Click Help Center at the right-hand end of the ElderSuite main menu bar.
- Click Update ElderSuite in the Related Activities group.
- Wait for the please-wait message. If ElderSuite asks whether to install an update, answer Yes (ElderSuite closes, then click Install in the update window). If it says This is the latest version of ElderSuite, click OK.
Symptoms this often clears: unexplained freezes, claim-formatting quirks after a release, update failures after a long session, and messages that an older build already fixed.
Check for Windows updates
ElderSuite is kept current with Windows 10 and later. An unfinished Windows update can leave components ElderSuite depends on in a half-applied state.
- Open Windows Settings and go to Windows Update.
- Install available updates and restart Windows if it asks you to.
- Start ElderSuite again and retry the task.
Symptoms this often clears: startup failures after a Windows patch night, printing or .NET-related oddities, and problems that began right after a system update.
Restart the computer
A full restart clears memory and resets system processes. Sleep or Standby is not enough.
- Shut the computer down fully—power off, not Sleep or Standby.
- Power it back on.
- Start ElderSuite and try the same steps again.
Symptoms this often clears: slowness after a long day, “ElderSuite encountered a problem and needs to be restarted,” temporary inability to load a required file, and intermittent freezes that vanish after a cold start. If ElderSuite still will not load required files after a restart, the on-screen message may tell you to reinstall next.
Confirm your contact information is current
Before you open a ticket, make sure we can reach the right person about it.
- Open the Provider Center from the ElderSuite main menu.
- Click Provider Information.
- Review the contact name, phone, and e-mail address.
- Correct anything outdated, then click Save & Close.
This does not fix a software fault by itself; it keeps ticket follow-up from bouncing to an old number or inbox.
Check internet and firewall connectivity
ElderSuite reads and writes over the ElderSuite network. An unstable link shows up as slow saves, failed updates, sign-in trouble about the data network, and failed document send or receive.
- Confirm the computer is online (Wi‑Fi connected or network cable seated).
- Restart the modem or router if the connection is flaky, then retry ElderSuite.
- If you see No Internet Connection or Connection Failed while sending or receiving documents, check that Windows Firewall and antivirus are not blocking ElderSuite, then restart ElderSuite and try again.
Mark ElderSuite as a trusted application in antivirus software and exclude its working folders from aggressive scans and disk cleanup. Overprotective security tools can block updates, printing, and installed files. Internet service, firewall hardware, VPN products, and antivirus configuration itself are outside ElderSuite Support—see What is outside our support.
The EOB Code List is missing — reinstall ElderSuite
When a claim status code appears in a billing text report without its plain-language explanation, ElderSuite may show: The EOB Code List is missing. Please try re-installing ElderSuite.
The Explanation of Benefits (EOB) Code List is a plain-text reference file installed with ElderSuite. ElderSuite uses it to translate short clearinghouse codes into wording you can read. The report still opens; only the wording for that code is missing. A missing list does not block, reject, or delay a claim.
Do not treat whatever claim status code sits next to the message as the “error number” for the missing list—the code is whatever the report was already carrying.
- Close ElderSuite.
- Request the current ElderSuite installer from the ElderSuite download page.
- Run the installer to reinstall ElderSuite. The installer replaces missing or corrupt files, including the EOB Code List.
- Open ElderSuite, open the same billing report again, and confirm the code now has its explanation.
If the list disappears again, something on the computer is removing installed files (often disk cleanup or antivirus). Exclude ElderSuite’s folders from those tools and open a support ticket so we can investigate a recurring loss.
Troubleshooting
- ElderSuite will not start or says it needs to be restarted. Launch ElderSuite again first. Restart the computer only if it keeps recurring. Nothing was saved or changed at that point.
- Missing Files or Unable to Load File or Assembly. Follow the order on the message: restart the computer; if it returns, reinstall from the ElderSuite website download. Do not guess which files are missing.
- Printouts blank, cut off, or garbled after these checks. That is usually a printer-driver path, not a general computer fault—see Report or Form Not Printing Correctly or Completely in ElderSuite.
- Ask what changed recently. New antivirus, a new printer or USB device, a Windows update, or a VPN often coincides with the first bad day.
When to open a support ticket
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, use ElderSuite Support. Premium support is included with every subscription: phone +1 888.999.8055, email support@eldersuite.com, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
Still stuck? Open a support ticket. Include what you were doing, the exact on-screen message (word for word), whether you closed ElderSuite for updates, installed Windows updates, restarted fully, checked connectivity, and—if relevant—whether reinstall restored the EOB Code List.
After the computer is stable again, return to the task you need in ElderSuite—attendance, claims, or reports—and continue from there.
