How to Write Nurse's Notes in ElderSuite

Open Nursing Notes, pick the client, and write a dated note. Print it for the chart. These notes are not the same record as Monthly Nursing Assessments.

📝 Overview

ElderSuite keeps each client's nursing notes in one list. You pick the client, see every note already on file, and open a separate window to write or correct a single dated note.

That note is free-text documentation of an observation, an intervention, or a care-plan update. It is not a Monthly Nursing Assessment. The two records live in the same Nursing Center. They are not interchangeable.

The list lives in the Nursing Center under Nursing Notes. The same list also opens from Report Center. On the Nursing Reports tab, the entry is named Nursing Note. Choosing it opens this working list. It does not print a report.

If Nursing Notes is greyed out on the Nursing Center, the user does not have the Edit Nurse's Notes permission. That is not a broken button. After the permission is granted, the Nursing Center has to be closed and opened again, or the user has to sign out and back in, before the button works.

âš™ How It Works

1. One Client, One Open Note

The left side of the window is the client list. The right side shows that client's notes, newest first, with the client's search name as a heading.

The note you add or edit belongs to the client you highlighted. If the client list is empty, Add New does nothing and no message appears. Set View to All Clients when you need someone who is no longer attending.

Nothing is typed on the list itself. Add New or Edit opens the Nurse's Note window. Only one of those windows can be open at a time. If one is already open, ElderSuite brings it forward instead of opening a second copy.

2. A Dated Free-Text Note

The Nurse's Note window holds four things you can see: the client, the note date, a To Be Printed tick, and the body of the note.

On a new note, Select Client is already set to the client you highlighted. Date is set to today. To Be Printed is already ticked. Type the note in the large editing area. Formatting toolbars sit above it if you need headings, lists, or emphasis.

Select Client can be changed only on a new note. After the first successful save, the dropdown switches off. An existing note cannot be moved to another client.

3. What Save, Print, and Delete Do

Save & Close writes the note and returns you to the list. ElderSuite checks that a client is chosen and that Date holds a complete date. If either is missing, nothing is saved. No message appears. The window stays open with your typing intact.

Print sends a copy of the note to a printer you choose. After a successful print, To Be Printed is unticked on the screen. That change is stored only when you save the note. Closing without saving leaves the note still marked as waiting to be printed.

Delete asks Are you sure you want to delete this record? No is the default. There is no undo. A deleted note has to be typed again.

If you close the window instead of using Save & Close, ElderSuite offers to save only when a client and a complete date are present.

âš  Save & Close Can Fail Silently

If Save & Close appears to do nothing, the client or the Date is incomplete. Fill both and try again. ElderSuite does not show a message.
